Leah and Jon's Babycakes is on the Way!

Has is REALLY been a week since I blogged? Oh my goodness...slacker I know! I haven't even put up any of my Christmas pics yet...now is it too late? Augh.

This week has gone crazy fast. After we recovered from Avery's party last weekend I needed to immediately start to gear up for company for New Years and for the baby shower I was throwing for my friend Leah yesterday. 3 of 5 of us Newmans, including me, were also sick in there, so the week was extra short.

Anyway, back to party party party! Yesterday, as I said, I threw a baby shower for one of my BFs from college. Leah is one of the last in our close group of friends to have a baby, so we are all soooo excited for her. She lives about an our away from my house in Wisconsin where we went to school. We decided since most of her guests were from there as well we'd throw it at her house. That way everyone could check out the nursery progress, too!

Speaking of the nursery, that was one of the two inspirations for the shower. My friend CJ and I were talking about what the theme should be and decided Leah had picked such cute bedding from Target that we should use that as color and design inspiration. I also love the book Babycakes by Karma Wilson, so we decided to use "babycakes" as our theme.

Inspirations...
So from there, I designed these invitations...
Then after months of talk and planning, the day finally arrived. Here are some of the pics from the shower...
Our guest of honor...
The inspiration book (used as our guestbook), diaper cake (get instructions to make one here), and framed invitation served as a centerpiece on one of the tables...
We used a banner to spread our theme to the living room for gift opening...the cupcakes were the centerpiece on another table, set on three different cake plates...
and when you looked at them from the top, they mimicked our theme dots...the napkin rings in a tin were the centerpiece for the food table...We played TPIR with baby items and had a board where you could bet on baby details...Cake Box favors (I got the instructs from Better Homes and Gardens) filled with candy were sent home with guests. They can either be put together to look like a cake, or spread out by the piece, which we did to fill the rest of the cupcake table.

Aside from the freezing rain that fell at the end of the shower causing my almost 2 hour drive home, all went well! It was so fun to see so many of Leah's friends that I haven't seen since probably her wedding.

Today is my last day of "vacation" until my shop re-opening tomorrow, so I guess I better make it good! Back with more tomorrow.

Hi - did you use size 1 diapers for your cake? The layers seem taller than the tutorial version you referred to. Also what did you use to wrap the outside of each layer? Are those pillowcases?

Awesome ideas!

Naomi,

Yes, I think I did use size one diapers if I remember correctly! The wrapping on the outside is receiving blankets. They took a little folding and adjusting, but if you play with them they make it look really nice!

This looks like such a fun shower- how did you play "The price is right" game? I am throwing an upcoming shower for my sister and would love to use that idea. Thanks for the inspiration.
